The AMA Crest

In honor of the Japanese influences found within the Traditional Martial Arts, our crest features a stylized “Red Sun” on a white background. In addition to representing the flag of this founding nation the colours also signify the journey of a beginner or White-belt along the path as they train towards the ideals associated with mastery of a discipline.

The circle is acknowledged as an icon representing a continuous journey. This is the principle shape of our crest as it reflects the philosophy of the Traditional Martial Arts; however, this ring is constructed out of mountainous peeks and valleys signifying: adversity, change, and perseverance. It is this final quality that enables us to stay on our chosen path and ultimately guide us to success.

If you look closely you will discover that these stylized mountains form the letters “AMA” and that the white space between them encloses the shape of two chevrons. This is an established symbol used to represent infinity that embodies the spirit of “Kaizen Do”. Translated as the way of constant improvement the “Kaizen Do” is the parent organization that governs all of the Academy of Martial Arts schools.
